Coming to Dresden
So I start my 6 month stay in Dresden, Germany. This should be interesting. My apartment is a decent size of 40 sq m (400 sq ft) and is quite nice. However, it's missing some basic things that I take for granted in North America. Such as a microwave, toaster oven, regular oven. It's also missing a beer bottle opener, which was really distressing, until I remembered that I have one attached to my key chain. You would think that anyone running a corporate apartment will supply these things. But this isn't Canada or America, it's Germany. So I'll just chalk that up as a difference in lifestyle.
Oh, and beer is ridiculously cheap. It's by far the cheapest beverage you can buy at a supermarket. I saw a 500ml can of beer for 0.30 EU ($0.45 CDN). I'm sure it's the North American equivalent of a Colt 45, but a Colt 45 is still more expensive than this. I opted for a high-class 0.80 EU ($1.20 CDN) 500ml bottle of a weiss beer. These Germans sure know how to make good beer cheap.
I'll post some pictures later.

No microwave, toaster oven, or conventional oven....what do you have to cook with? Just a stove-top?
Willkommen nach Dresden! (And damn babelfish if that's wrong). I'm glad you're enjoying the cheap (yet still tasty) beer. The actually have very strict regulations on the production of beer there... no preservatives at all. Make sure to take a trip south to Czechland for even cheaper (and, IMO, tastier) beer... I could buy a bottle of my favourite Kozel for about $0.09 CAD. Heaven.
